Site Specific Climbing Wall Supervisor

The AdventureFitness Company is recognised as a leading provider of courses for clubs or schools who own their own climbing wall and need to have qualified supervisors. We also run a 3 day course for groups wishing to use an outside natural "real rock" venue.

This is not a Nationally recognized award, (there are no NGB site specific climbing wall awards at this present time), however, our training course breaches the void between some-one who has the motivation and enthusiasm to take children or adults climbing but has no relevant qualifications and some-one who is SPA qualified (please see the MLTE website for details). This award is only valid for the specific climbing wall the course is based on.

IMPORTANT - PLEASE NOTE The club or schools insurers must be satisfied that the course content covered is adequate for their insurance policies to be valid. The course is run to a set programme and contains elements of assessment that must be passed before a certificate of competence is awarded.

Limitations of The AdventureFitness Company Site Specific Award

  1. The certificate of competence will only be valid for 2 years from date of issue. (This may be extended to three years after a review of the potential candidates ability and experience and if a current SPA holder is among the staff).

  2. The candidate must hold a current first aid award. The certificate of competence will become void if the first aid award runs out.

  3. The certificate of competence is only valid for the climbing wall it has been issued for.

  4. The holder may supervise 3 top rope climbs or where the leading climbing element has been trained and assessed, then 1 climber wishing to lead. (The instructor must be the belayer during lead climbing at all times and only on bolted routes with in-situ runners).

  5. The holder is not permitted to supervise any form of abseil.

  6. If the climbing wall is modified, (ie lead climbing wall added where there was only top roping facilities, then the lead climbing element must be trained and assessed).

  7. The candidate must be over 18 years of age.
